Description
Plastic model kit: German submarine SM U9 1:72 Das Werk DW72001
This plastic model kit represents the German submarine SM U9 from World War I in 1:72 scale. It is the first model of the U9 class ever made using injection-molded plastic technology.
SM U9 was the lead unit of its type, which gained fame at the beginning of the war. On September 22, 1914, under the command of Otto Weddigen, the submarine sank three British armored cruisers: HMS Aboukir, HMS Hogue, and HMS Cressy in less than an hour. This event shocked the Admiralty of the time and forever changed the perception of submarine warfare in naval conflicts.
Set features:
- Precisely reproduced surface details of the hull.
- Optional assembly of the conning tower railings.
- Hatches and torpedo doors can be modeled in open or closed position.
- Nameplates for all four ships of this class (U9, U10, U11, U12).
- High-quality decal sheet.
Technical specifications of the prototype:
- Armament: 4 torpedo tubes 45 cm (2 bow, 2 stern), initially 1 machine gun, later a 3.7 cm or 5 cm gun.
- Propulsion: Oil engines (petroleum) for surface navigation and electric motors for underwater navigation.
- Crew: approx. 25-29 people.
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
