History and characteristics of the battleship SMS Markgraf:
Markgraf was one of four battleships of the "Konig" class, which were key units of the German Hochseeflotte (High Seas Fleet) during World War I. This ship participated in many combat operations, including the famous Battle of Jutland, which took place on May 31 and June 1, 1916. It was the largest naval battle of World War I, in which Markgraf, as the third in the German line, played a significant role, inflicting serious damage on British battleships such as Warspite, Valiant, and Malaya.
After the war, Markgraf, like most of the German fleet, was interned at Scapa Flow. In the face of the threat of seizure by the British, the German crew scuttled the ship on June 21, 1919. The wreck of Markgraf, unlike many other vessels, was never raised and still rests on the seabed, being a popular site for divers and an object of archaeological research.
