History and characteristics of Do 217K-1: The Do 217K-1 bomber was an extension of the basic Do 217 model, which was designed by Dornier, one of the leading aircraft manufacturers of the Third Reich. The Dornier company, founded by Count Zeppelin in 1914, specialized in the production of bombers and seaplanes. The Do 17 and Do 217 models became some of the most recognizable bombers of that period.
The K-1 variant was distinguished by a modified front fuselage, where the upper canopy was integrated into one piece, increasing space for the crew and improving the pilot's visibility. The aircraft was powered by two BMW 80ID engines, which allowed it to reach a speed of 515 km/h at an altitude of 4000 meters. The Do 217K-1 was equipped with robust defensive armament distributed in five points, which was later expanded to seven, and could carry a maximum bomb load of 4000 kg.
The first prototype of the Do 217K-1 took to the air on March 21, 1942, and serial production began in the fall of the same year. Although initially designed as a night bomber, this model was used in both daytime and nighttime operations over Western Europe and in the Mediterranean region.
Painting recommendations: The model can be painted using the Luftwaffe Night Bombers acrylic paint set (6x12ml) ICM 3085, which will allow for an authentic historical appearance of the aircraft.
Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. Assembly requires separately sold modeling tools (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
