The Gotha Go 242 was one of the most important German transport gliders of World War II. Designed at the Gothaer Waggonfabrik, it featured a unique twin-boom design with a central fuselage gondola. The B-2 version was an evolution of the design equipped with a fixed wheeled landing gear with a nose wheel, which significantly facilitated operations from field airstrips compared to earlier versions that used landing skids.

These gliders played a key role in supplying German troops on various fronts, especially where wheeled transport was impossible or too dangerous. With a large cargo space, the Go 242 could transport up to 21 fully equipped soldiers or loads weighing up to 2400 kg, including light vehicles and artillery. It was often towed by Heinkel He 111 or Junkers Ju 52 aircraft.
