History and achievements: The Hawker Hurricane was a revolutionary fighter that debuted in 1935 as a successor to the biplanes of the RAF, such as the Hawker Fury and Gloster Gauntlet. Equipped with eight Browning machine guns of 7.7 mm caliber, a closed cockpit, and retractable landing gear, the Hurricane was a modern fighter aircraft that quickly gained recognition.
The first Hurricane models that entered service in the RAF in mid-1938 had fabric-covered wings and a biplane propeller, which limited their performance. However, improvements were soon introduced in the form of metal wings and three-blade propellers, allowing for the installation of seat armor and increasing structural durability.
The Hurricane first saw combat during the Battle of France, where it proved to be a resilient and reliable fighter capable of surviving Luftwaffe attacks. Nevertheless, it was unable to stop the German blitzkrieg, forcing Hurricanes to return to Great Britain, where they played a key role in defending British skies during the Battle of Britain.
