Plastic model airplane kit: Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIA 1:48 Hobby 2000 48015
This plastic model kit represents the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIA fighter aircraft in 1:48 scale, produced by Hobby 2000. It is a complete set that allows you to build a detailed model of one of the most famous British fighter planes from World War II.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIA is a version of the Hurricane Mk.I, powered by an improved Merlin XX engine with a two-stage supercharger. The new engine, using a coolant mixture of 30% glycol and 70% water, was not only safer but also operated about 21°C cooler, which extended the engine's lifespan and increased its reliability. The first flight of this version took place on June 11, 1940, and it entered service with squadrons in September 1940, at the peak of the Battle of Britain.
Historical features:
- The Hawker Hurricane was one of the main fighters used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Battle of Britain, where it played a key role in defending Britain against the German Luftwaffe.
- This aircraft was responsible for 60% of Luftwaffe losses during the campaign, despite often being overshadowed by the more media-friendly Spitfire.
- The Hurricane was the first British fighter to exceed a speed of 300 mph (480 km/h) and was known for its durability and ease of repair in field conditions.
The Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIA was produced by Hawker and Gloster Aircraft Company. A total of 451 units of this version were produced. This aircraft was used by many air forces, including the RAF, Royal Canadian Air Force, Royal Navy, and the Soviet Air Forces.
