History and significance of the aircraft: The Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 was the pinnacle of piston-engine fighter design. Introduced into service after World War II, the Sea Fury saw action during the Korean War, where it successfully faced early jet fighters like the MiG-15. It was also a popular choice among the air forces of many countries, including Australia, Canada, Cuba, and Pakistan.
The aircraft was designed by Hawker Aircraft as a successor to the successful Typhoon and Tempest models. The Sea Fury featured a powerful Bristol Centaurus engine and was armed with four Hispano V cannons. Its design was adapted for operations from aircraft carriers, making it a versatile and reliable fighter.
The Sea Fury was known for its excellent maneuverability and speed, achieving a maximum speed of 460 mph. It was used not only as a fighter but also as an attack aircraft, capable of carrying bombs and rockets. The FB.11 version was equipped with hydraulically folding wings, which facilitated operations on the aircraft carrier.
