History and use:
15 cm schweres InfanteriegeschUtz 33 (sIG 33) is a German heavy infantry gun that played a key role in military operations during World War II. It was the first infantry gun of such a large caliber, which provided German infantry regiments with a significant advantage in heavy caliber artillery. The gun was adopted into service in 1933 and was produced by Rheinmetall, as well as during the war by AEG and the Czech Bohmische Waffenfabrik in Strakonice.
The gun was towed by a six-horse team or an artillery tractor. In 1939, the German army had 450 sIG 33 guns, which were used in 51 divisions of the first and second waves of mobilization. During the war, they were also introduced into other divisions as well as motorized and armored divisions. As of December 1, 1944, the German army still had 1183 sIG 33 guns.
