Description
Plastic model kit: Henschel Hs-123A (late) with crew Luftwaffe Pilot School 1:32 ICM 32017
Training for future Luftwaffe pilots began in special flight schools, referred to as “A/B Schools”. Cadets spent 100 to 150 hours in the air, starting with instruction from a teacher, and then moving on to solo take-offs, landings, and aerial maneuvers. Decisions on the pilot's further specialization – fighter, bomber, or reconnaissance – were made based on the instructors' observations.
Although flights mainly took place on light training aircraft, the schools also had combat aircraft, including the Henschel Hs 123 biplane. These aircraft, whose mass production began in September 1936, were characterized by simple construction, reliability, and very good flight characteristics. Thanks to these features, the Hs 123 remained in Luftwaffe service until almost the end of World War II, serving both for infantry support and in training units.
