History and characteristics of the Henschel Hs 129 B-3:
The Henschel Hs 129 was a ground attack aircraft designed by the German company Henschel Flugzeugwerke AG. Its main task was to provide air support and attack ground targets. This aircraft was developed in response to the experiences of the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War, which highlighted the need for a specialized aircraft to combat ground targets.
The most distinctive feature of the Hs 129 B-3 was its armament in the form of an automatic cannon BK 7.5 caliber 75 mm, which was the heaviest and most powerful cannon mounted on an aircraft during World War II. This cannon was equipped with an aerodynamic muzzle brake and an automatic feed for 12 rounds. The Hs 129 B-3 was primarily used on the Eastern Front and in North Africa, where it served as an anti-tank aircraft. Although its armament allowed for the destruction of even the heaviest tanks, its overall performance was limited by the additional weight of the armament. A total of 866 Hs 129 units were produced, of which only a small number were the B-3 version. Production ended in the summer of 1944. Although the Hs 129 B-3 was theoretically capable of destroying any tank in the world, its increased weight negatively affected the overall performance of the aircraft, making it less effective than earlier versions.
