A plastic model kit depicting the famous Higgins LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) landing craft in 1:72 scale. This naval vehicle, crucial to the course of World War II, played a fundamental role during amphibious operations, including the legendary Normandy landings.

History and construction of the original:

LCVP boats, commonly known as Higgins boats, were designed by American designer Andrew Higgins. Their innovative design featured a shallow draft, allowing them to approach shores inaccessible to larger units. Made largely of plywood, they were cheap and quick for mass production – over 23,000 units were built between 1942 and 1945. A key element was the full-width bow ramp, enabling the rapid landing of 36 soldiers or a light vehicle like a Jeep. These units were intensively used both in Europe (Operation Overlord, landings in Sicily) and in the Pacific (battles for Iwo Jima and Okinawa).
