Plastic model kit: HMS Ark Royal 1:600 Airfix 04208V
HMS Ark Royal was one of the most famous and distinguished aircraft carriers of the British Royal Navy during World War II. Launched on April 13, 1937, at the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, it was a modern design that played a key role in many naval operations. The unit's most famous success was its participation in the pursuit of the German battleship Bismarck in May 1941, when Fairey Swordfish aircraft from Ark Royal damaged the German behemoth's rudders, enabling its later sinking.
Ark Royal's service ended tragically in November 1941 in the Mediterranean Sea, where the ship was torpedoed by the German submarine U-81. Despite rescue efforts, the unit sank on November 14. Thanks to an efficient evacuation, only one crew member died.
The Airfix 04208V model from the Vintage Classics series is a faithful replica of this legendary ship. The set is based on classic molds from 1966, which gives it a unique, nostalgic character. The packaging features iconic artwork by the famous marine illustrator, Roy Cross.
