History and historical background:

40/43.M Zrinyi II, also known as Zrinyi rohamtarack, is a Hungarian self-propelled howitzer from the World War II era. It was based on the 40.M Turan I tank, from which the chassis was widened to accommodate the 105 mm howitzer. This project was a response to the Hungarian army's need for effective means to combat enemy tanks, especially after experiences from the early fighting with the USSR.

The Zrinyi II gun was produced at the Manfred Weiss factories in Csepel and at the Ganz factories. Production began in August 1943 and lasted until July 1944, during which approximately 60 units were produced. These vehicles were used in combat on the Eastern Front, cooperating with German forces against the Red Army. The Zrinyi II was distinguished by its solid armor ranging from 16 to 75 mm thick and a maximum speed of about 43 km/h.

The first self-propelled artillery units with Zrinyi II began to be formed in July 1943. These vehicles were used in various battalions, including the 1st Assault Gun Battalion, which participated in battles in Ukraine and in the Tatar Pass region of the Carpathians. Zrinyi II was also used by the 10th Assault Gun Battalion in Slovakia.
