History of the I-153 aircraft: The I-153 was the last and most advanced biplane fighter designed by the design bureau of Nikolai Polikarpov. This aircraft was distinguished by its characteristic upper wing shaped like a seagull and retractable landing gear. It was equipped with four ShKAS machine guns, making it one of the most heavily armed fighters of its time. The first flight of the I-153 took place in August 1938, and by 1941, a total of 3,437 units of this model had been produced.
In 1941, the I-153 formed the backbone of Soviet fighter aviation, alongside the I-16 fighters. These aircraft were used in combat until mid-1943, and some of them were adapted for winter operations by using ski landing gear. The I-153 was also used by the Finnish Air Force, which attests to its versatility and reliability.
Contents of the kit: The kit includes plastic frames with assembly parts, a decal sheet (water slide), and a detailed assembly instruction. The model is intended for modelers of intermediate skill level who value accuracy and historical fidelity in reproduction.
Additional information: The I-153 "Chaika" was one of the last biplane fighters used during World War II. Its design, although classic, was advanced enough to allow effective operation in difficult combat conditions. This aircraft was particularly valued for its maneuverability and ability to operate from short runways, which was crucial in frontline conditions.
The I-153 (winter version) model from ICM is not only a treat for collectors but also an excellent opportunity to delve into the history of Soviet military aviation. With its precise detail reproduction, this model serves as an excellent starting point for further modeling work, such as painting or adding photo-etched elements that can further enhance its appearance.
