Description
Plastic model aircraft for assembly: I-153 (winter version) 1:48 ICM 48096
The Polikarpov I-153, commonly known as "Chaika" (Seagull), was the last and most advanced stage in the development of the family of Soviet biplane fighters designed by N. N. Polikarpov's design bureau. This machine was an evolutionary development of the earlier I-15 model, introducing a number of significant technical innovations aimed at improving aerodynamic performance and firepower.
The most characteristic feature of the I-153 was the gull wing configuration and manually retractable landing gear, which was rare in biplane designs of that period. Production aircraft were powered by M-62 radial engines, and later series received even more powerful M-63 units. The armament consisted of four rapid-fire 7.62 mm ShKAS machine guns. The winter version, which this model represents, was equipped with skis instead of wheels, allowing operation from snow-covered airfields.
