Plastic model kit: IJN Nagato "Battle of Leyte Gulf" 1:350 Hasegawa 40073
Plastic model kit depicting the Japanese battleship IJN Nagato in its configuration from the Battle of Leyte Gulf (1944). The set features a detailed representation of the unit after modernizations, including significantly reinforced anti-aircraft armament.
Historical Background:
Nagato was a lead battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy, launched in 1919. It was the first in the world to be armed with 410 mm main artillery. For many years, it served as the flagship of the Combined Fleet, and it was from its deck that the signal to attack Pearl Harbor was given. During the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, Nagato participated in the engagement off the coast of Samar Island, where it contributed to the sinking of the escort carrier USS Gambier Bay. It was the only Japanese battleship to survive World War II in a seaworthy condition, eventually sinking in 1946 as a result of American atomic tests at Bikini Atoll.
Model Features:
- Faithfully reproduced hull and superstructure in 1:350 scale.
- The set includes dedicated photo-etched parts to enhance the level of detail.
- The kit contains 3 miniatures of Mitsubishi F1M2 seaplanes (Type 0 Observation Seaplane).
- Accessories included: illustrated poster, color painting scheme, and rigging instructions.
- Includes an updated booklet with historical overview and technical documentation.
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. Assembly requires separately sold modeling tools (including sprue cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model cement (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
