Plastic model aircraft for assembly: IRIAF F-14A 1:72 Academy 12594
A plastic model for assembly depicting the legendary American carrier-based fighter Grumman F-14A Tomcat in the markings of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) and the US Navy. The F-14 Tomcat is a two-seat, supersonic aircraft with variable-sweep wings, which for decades formed the backbone of the air defense of American aircraft carriers.
Designed as the primary fighter for the US Navy, the F-14 Tomcat was capable of performing air superiority, escort, and strike missions. The prototype aircraft first flew on December 21, 1970, and the first aircraft entered service four years later. The most characteristic design feature is the variable-sweep wings, which, controlled by computer or manually, change the angle of attack from 20 degrees at minimum speed to 60 degrees at supersonic speeds. This allows for performance optimization during both landing and tight combat maneuvers.
Iran acquired 79 F-14A Tomcats in the 1970s, along with a powerful armament system based on the Hughes AN/AWG-9 radar and AIM-54 Phoenix long-range missiles. After the 1979 revolution and the imposition of an embargo, the Iranian Air Force kept the fleet operational through local parts production and reverse engineering. To this day, it is estimated that about 20-25 aircraft remain airworthy.
Kit characteristics:- Variable-sweep wings with the option to assemble in maximum or minimum sweep position.
- Detailed reproduction of fuselage and cockpit elements.
- The set includes parts made of light gray and transparent plastic.
- Choice of 5 marking options: 4 Iranian schemes (IRIAF) and 1 US Navy scheme (VF-1 Wolfpack, USS Ranger, 1981).
Kit for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, you will need separately sold modeling tools (including nippers, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and glue for plastic models (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
