History and background of the vehicle:
The Fiat 500 "Topolino" was one of the smallest cars in the world at the time of its production. It was introduced to the market in 1936 and was produced until 1955. During this period, three models were created, differing only in minor mechanical and cosmetic changes. The car was equipped with a four-cylinder, side-valve, water-cooled engine with a displacement of 569 cm³, located in front of the front axle. This made it a full-sized car rather than a cyclecar.
The Fiat 500 "Topolino" featured an aerodynamic front profile, providing exceptional forward visibility. Initially, the rear suspension used quarter-elliptic springs, but over time, due to frequently carrying more passengers than the nominal two seats, the chassis was lengthened to allow for the use of more robust semi-elliptic springs.
The car achieved a power output of about 10 kW (13 HP) and a maximum speed of around 85 km/h. It was also economical in terms of fuel consumption, achieving about 6 l/100 km. Despite initially being priced higher than planned, the Fiat 500 "Topolino" was competitively priced, contributing to the sale of nearly 520,000 units.
The Fiat 500 "Topolino" was also produced in France by Simca as the Simca 5 and in Germany by Fiat's German subsidiary, NSU-Fiat. In 1955, Fiat launched a larger model, the Fiat 600, which became the basis for the new Fiat 500, known as the Nuova 500, replacing the original 500 model.
