History and characteristics of the Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer:
The Jagdpanzer 38(t), also known as Hetzer, was a German light tank destroyer based on a modified chassis of the Czechoslovak tank Panzer 38(t). Introduced into service in 1944, the Hetzer became one of the most widely used German tank destroyers in the later stages of World War II. Its production was relatively simple, allowing for over 2800 units to be manufactured.
The Hetzer was distinguished by its low profile and fully enclosed armor, which enhanced its defensive capabilities compared to other self-propelled guns, such as the Marder II or Marder III. It was armed with a 7.5 cm Pak 39 L/48 gun and a remotely operated MG 34 machine gun, making it effective against most Allied and Soviet tanks at long ranges.
The Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer was designed for defensive operations, where it could be effectively used in ambush, waiting for approaching enemy forces. Its small size and ability to conceal itself in the terrain made it difficult to detect and destroy.
