History and background of the aircraft: The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an American wide-body aircraft developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. This project was initiated after the abandonment of the Sonic Cruiser concept, with the main goal of improving fuel efficiency. The 787 program was officially launched on April 26, 2004, and the first flight took place on December 15, 2009. The aircraft entered commercial service on October 26, 2011, with All Nippon Airways.
One of Boeing's main goals was to reduce fuel consumption by 20% compared to older models such as the Boeing 767. The Dreamliner can carry between 200 and 300 passengers on routes of up to 8,500 nautical miles (15,700 km), allowing for direct connections between cities without the need for large airport hubs.
The Boeing 787 is the first passenger aircraft whose design is largely based on composite materials. This makes it lighter and more economical to operate. The aircraft also features a modern cockpit with four windows, distinctive wing tips, and engines with chevrons that reduce noise.
Initial operations of the 787 encountered issues mainly related to lithium-ion batteries, which led to a temporary grounding of the fleet by the FAA in 2013. After implementing fixes, the aircraft continues its career, gaining recognition for its innovation and efficiency.
