Original – Saab JAS 39 Gripen:

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a lightweight, single-engine, supersonic multirole fighter produced by the Swedish company Saab AB. Designed as a fighter, attack, and reconnaissance aircraft, the Gripen replaced older models Saab 35 Draken and 37 Viggen in the Swedish Air Force. The first flight took place in 1988, and it entered service in 1996.

The Gripen features a modern aerodynamic layout with delta wings and canards, providing excellent maneuverability and stability. With advanced avionics systems and NATO interoperability capabilities, the Gripen has become a popular choice for many countries around the world, including in Central Europe, South Africa, and Southeast Asia.

The development of the Gripen began in 1979 when the Swedish government initiated work on a new aircraft to replace older models in the Swedish Air Force. Saab was selected to carry out this project, resulting in the creation of the JAS 39. In 2003, upgraded variants with more advanced avionics and longer mission times entered service.

In 2019, deliveries of the new generation Gripen, designated JAS 39E/F, began to the Swedish and Brazilian Air Forces. The new models feature a larger fuselage, a more powerful engine, increased weapon payload capacity, and a modern electronic warfare system.
