History and use of Ju 88A-14: The Junkers Ju 88 was a twin-engine combat aircraft designed by the German company Junkers Flugzeug und Motorenwerke AG. Its design was created in response to the requirements of the Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM) from 1934 for a new multi-role aircraft. The Ju 88 was intended to serve as a so-called Schnellbomber, or fast bomber, which could evade interception by enemy fighters due to its high speed.
The first prototype of the Ju 88 made its maiden flight on December 21, 1936. Despite initial technical problems that delayed its introduction into service, the Ju 88 became one of the most important and frequently used aircraft of the Luftwaffe during World War II. It was used in many roles, including as a bomber, dive bomber, night fighter, torpedo bomber, reconnaissance aircraft, and heavy fighter.
The Ju 88A-14 version that can be built from this kit was equipped with an MG FF cannon in the belly gondola and was primarily used for operations against shipping in the Atlantic, Baltic, and Mediterranean Seas from 1941 to 1943. This aircraft participated in many campaigns, including the invasion of Poland, the Norwegian campaign, the Battle of France, the Battle of Britain, the invasion of Yugoslavia, the invasion of Greece, the Siege of Malta, the North African campaign, and on the Eastern Front.
