The Junkers Ju 88 was one of the most versatile German aircraft of World War II. Originally designed as a fast bomber (Schnellbomber), capable of outpacing contemporary fighters, it became the basis for many specialized versions, including dive bombers, night fighters, and reconnaissance aircraft.

The Ju 88A-5 version entered production in the spring of 1940. It featured an increased wingspan compared to earlier variants and used Jumo 211G-1 or H-1 liquid-cooled engines. Between 1940 and 1941, approximately 2000 units of this version were produced, which actively participated in the Battle of Britain, operations in the Balkans, and on the Eastern Front.
