History and significance of Junkers F13:
Junkers F13 is the world's first all-metal transport aircraft, designed and produced by the German manufacturer Junkers. This aircraft, introduced shortly after the end of World War I, was a pioneering project in civil aviation. It was a low-wing monoplane with an enclosed space for four passengers and an open cockpit for two crew members.
The Junkers F13 was distinguished by its duralumin construction, which was a groundbreaking approach at the time. This made the aircraft lighter and more durable than its wooden counterparts. The characteristic corrugated surface of the skin increased its torsional strength, and the absence of external wing supports reduced aerodynamic drag.
A total of 322 units of the Junkers F13 were produced, which was a significant number for a commercial aircraft of that era. These aircraft were operated worldwide, accounting for over one-third of air traffic in the early 1920s. Versions with floats for water landings, skis for snow landings, and various engines were commonly used. This aircraft was in production for thirteen years and in commercial service for over thirty.
