The Kawasaki GPZ900R, introduced in 1984, was the first production motorcycle equipped with a 16-valve, liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine. Thanks to an innovative frame design where the engine served as a stressed member, and refined aerodynamics, this machine was the first to break the 240 km/h speed barrier, becoming the fastest production motorcycle of its time. This model also gained worldwide fame thanks to its appearance in the movie "Top Gun".
