The Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu (Dragon Slayer) was a key heavy fighter of the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. The Tei (Ding) version was specifically adapted to combat American B-29 bomber formations. The Kaiten Seikutai units operated aircraft with special specifications – to increase performance and altitude, unnecessary armament and equipment were removed from the planes, and the rear gunner's position was blanked off. Machines prepared in this way took part in desperate ramming missions against enemy bombers over Japanese territory.
