We present the plastic model kit Kfz.2 German communication vehicle type 170VK in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. This detailed model reflects one of the key communication vehicles used by German military units during World War II. The Kfz.2 was an invaluable tool in maintaining communication between field commands and forces on the front, making it an essential element in reconnaissance operations and command support.
Model features:
- Highly detailed Kfz.2 model with accurate representation of communication equipment and interior layout.
- The kit includes a decal sheet for model customization.
- The set also includes photo-etched parts that add realism and precision.
Historical background: The Kfz.2 was based on the Mercedes-Benz W136, which was the main line of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars with a four-cylinder engine from the mid-1930s to the 1950s. The 170 V model, on which the Kfz.2 was based, debuted publicly in 1936 as the successor to the W15 Type 170 and quickly became the best-selling Mercedes-Benz model before the war. By 1942, over 75,000 units had been produced, making it the most popular model of the brand at that time.
During the war, despite heavy bombings, Mercedes-Benz managed to maintain production, and the 170 V with a "Kübelwagen" body became the second most produced German light military vehicle. Between 1938 and 1942, over 19,000 such vehicles were produced for the Wehrmacht.
Vehicle specifications:
- Engine: Four-cylinder, 1.7 liters, rear-wheel drive.
- Power: 38 PS (28 kW; 37 hp) at 3,400 RPM.
- Fuel consumption: 10 liters per 100 kilometers.
Additional information: The Mercedes-Benz 170 V was known for its wide range of body options, including passenger and utility versions. Special versions were adapted for use as ambulances, police vehicles, mountain rescue, and military. After the war, the 170 V model became the foundation on which Mercedes-Benz rebuilt its position in the automotive market.
