History and technical background:

The Tiger II was the successor to the Tiger I tank and combined the armor thickness of its predecessor with the sloped armor used in the medium tank Panther. It was the most expensive German tank in production at the time, weighing nearly 70 tons and protected by armor ranging from 100 to 185 mm thick at the front. It was armed with a long-barreled 8.8 cm KwK 43 anti-tank gun, which was one of the most powerful tank guns of that era.

The Tiger II was used by heavy tank battalions of the German army and Waffen-SS. It was first used in combat by the 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion during the Allied invasion of Normandy on July 11, 1944. On the Eastern Front, the first unit equipped with the Tiger II was the 501st Heavy Tank Battalion.

The Tiger II was used in many key battles, including the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944, where at least 150 Tiger IIs participated. This tank was also present during the Hungarian offensive in March 1945 and in the Battle of Berlin at the end of the war.

Despite initial reliability issues, the Tiger II was extremely effective in combat, and its thick armor and powerful gun gave it an advantage over most Allied and Soviet tanks.
