The Mercedes-Benz L 4500S is a long-nose truck produced by Daimler-Benz from 1939 to 1944, and later by Saurer until 1945. It was a rear-wheel drive version, while the L 4500A version had all-wheel drive. During the war, due to material shortages, a number of simplifications were introduced in the vehicle's design. The cabin was made of wood and covered with metal, and the fenders were replaced with simpler, bent metal ones. Despite these changes, these trucks were reliable machines that transported supplies and towed artillery pieces on both the Eastern and Western fronts.

The L 4500S was equipped with a six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz OM 67/4 diesel engine, which featured pre-chamber injection and water cooling. The vehicle had a pneumatic-hydraulic braking system with drums on each wheel and a handbrake that only locked the rear wheels. The steering system was based on the ZF Type 721 system. The engine's torque was transmitted to a five-speed manual transmission with a single-plate dry clutch.
