Plastic model car to assemble: Lamborghini Diablo 1:24 Fujimi 126791
The Lamborghini Diablo is a high-performance sports car with a mid-engine produced by the Italian car manufacturer Lamborghini from 1990 to 2001.
It is the first production car from Lamborghini capable of reaching a top speed exceeding 320 kilometers per hour. After production ended in 2001, the Diablo was replaced by the Lamborghini Murciélago. The name Diablo means "devil" in Spanish.
During the time the company was financed by Swiss brothers Jean Claude and Patrick Mimran, Lamborghini began work on a project codenamed Project 132 in June 1985, which was intended to replace the Countach, Lamborghini's then-flagship sports car. The brief stated that the new car's top speed must be at least 315 km/h.
The car's design was commissioned to Marcello Gandini, who had designed its two predecessors. When Chrysler Corporation bought the company in 1987, financing it to complete the car's development, the company's management was uncomfortable with Gandini's designs and commissioned their design team in Detroit to perform a third extensive redesign, smoothing out the notorious sharp edges and corners of Gandini's original design, leaving him displeased. In fact, Gandini was so disappointed with the "softened" shape that he later realized his original design in the Cizeta-Moroder V16T.
The new car was named Diablo, continuing Lamborghini's tradition of naming its cars after breeds of fighting bulls. Diablo was named after a wild bull bred by the Duke of Veragua in the 19th century, known for its epic fight with "El Chicorro" in Madrid on July 11, 1869.
It is believed that the development cost a total of 6 billion Lira.
