History and development:

The Chinese Navy began work on a large destroyer as early as the 1960s, but the "055" project was canceled in 1983 due to technical problems. In 2014, construction of the first unit of this class, Nanchang, began, which was launched in 2019 and entered service in 2020. The Type 055 is the largest warship built in East Asia since World War II.

The Type 055 features a modern design that minimizes radar, thermal, and electromagnetic signatures. The integrated mast and enclosed superstructure conceal advanced radar and electronic systems, making it difficult to detect by the enemy. Further modifications and development of this class are planned, including the possibility of equipping it with laser or electromagnetic weapons, which would require the integration of electric propulsion.
