The Leopard 2 is a contemporary German third-generation main battle tank that has become a symbol of European armored strength. Work on a successor to the Leopard 1 began in the 1960s, initially as part of a joint project with the USA (MBT-70). After the cooperation ended, Germany continued the development independently, which led to the creation of a revolutionary design, outclassing contemporary Soviet vehicles. The Leopard 2 is characterized by excellent mobility thanks to its 1500 HP engine, an advanced fire control system, and powerful armament in the form of a Rheinmetall 120 mm cannon.

The A4 version, introduced in 1985, represented the peak of the tank's development during the Cold War. It featured improved turret and hull armor and a modernized fire control system. It is the most widely exported version of the Leopard 2, serving in the armies of many NATO countries, including the Polish Armed Forces.
