An American supersonic fighter aircraft capable of achieving high speeds in level flight and during climb. Used in interceptor, fighter-bomber, and two-seat trainer-combat variants.

The F-104J version is a machine for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. A total of 210 single-seat F-104J aircraft and 20 two-seat F-104DJ were produced. Most were built by Mitsubishi, and the first unit was flown on June 30, 1961. The aircraft was powered by the J79-IHI-11A engine built under license by Ishikawajima-Harima. In the mid-1980s, the F-104J was retired from service and replaced by the more modern F-15J Eagle. Retired F-104Js were sent to Taiwan or converted into target drones QF-104J.

On the other hand, the CF-104 was built under license by the Canadian manufacturer Canadair, initially designated as CF-111. Approximately 200 units were built mainly for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). This aircraft was structurally identical to the F-104G but powered by the J79-OEL-7 engine produced in Canada by Orenda. The initial purpose of the CF-104 was to carry nuclear weapons, which is why they did not have any gun armament or appropriate sights. However, later on, they were modified for the role of attack aircraft by adding an M61 Vulcan cannon along with the necessary equipment, as well as underwing missile and bomb launchers. The CF-104 was retired from the RCAF in the mid-1980s and replaced by American multi-role aircraft F/A-18 Hornet. Of the 238 CF-104 aircraft operated by the Canadian Air Force, 110 were lost in accidents.
