Description
Plastic model aircraft kit: Lockheed Hudson 1:72 Airfix 03006V
The Lockheed Hudson is a British, twin-engine light bomber and maritime patrol aircraft of all-metal construction, built as a mid-wing monoplane with a characteristic twin tail. This machine was a deep modernization of the civilian passenger aircraft Lockheed Model 14 Super Electra. It was ordered by the British RAF in 1938, and its maiden flight took place in December of the same year. The first examples reached operational units as early as February 1939.
These aircraft played a key role in the first half of World War II, serving not only in the RAF but also in the Australian Air Force (RAAF), where they took part in heavy fighting against Japanese forces during the invasion of Malaya. Hudsons were valued for their robust construction, although they suffered significant losses in clashes with enemy fighters without escort. Over time, from the end of 1943, they were successively replaced by more modern designs.
