The model to assemble and paint: LRDG Crew 5 in 1:35 scale from Thunder Models is a unique set that allows you to create realistic figures representing the crew of the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG). The LRDG was an elite British unit that operated during World War II in the deserts of North Africa. Its main task was to conduct long-range reconnaissance and sabotage missions behind enemy lines. Thanks to its mobility and ability to survive in harsh conditions, the LRDG gained a reputation as one of the most effective special units of that time. The LRDG Crew 5 set from Thunder Models includes three intricately detailed resin figures depicting key crew members: a driver, a shooter, and a loader.

History of LRDG:

The Long Range Desert Group was formed in 1940 by Major Ralph Bagnold, who was a pioneer in desert exploration. The unit consisted of volunteers who were selected for their survival skills and ability to operate in extreme conditions. The LRDG was known for using specially adapted vehicles, such as Chevrolet and Ford trucks, which were equipped with additional fuel tanks, weapons, and supplies necessary for prolonged operations in the desert.

This unit played a key role in the North African campaigns, providing valuable intelligence and conducting attacks on enemy supply lines. Due to its mobility and ability to operate in isolation, the LRDG was able to surprise the enemy and avoid direct confrontations, making it extremely effective in guerrilla warfare.

Set for self-assembly and painting. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g. Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
