Historical background:

The Luftwaffe, as a branch of the Wehrmacht's air forces, was one of the most powerful military aviation forces at the beginning of World War II. It was officially established on February 26, 1935, after Germany rejected the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles, which prohibited them from having air forces. The Luftwaffe played a key role in many military campaigns, including the invasion of Poland in 1939 and the Battle of France in 1940.

During the Battle of Britain, the Luftwaffe inflicted serious damage on RAF infrastructure, but failed to gain air superiority, which was one of the key factors that prevented the Germans from invading Great Britain. In the later years of the war, the Luftwaffe participated in operations on the Eastern Front, in North Africa, and in Southern Europe.

Despite initial successes, the Luftwaffe began to lose significance as the Allies increased their air forces. From 1942 onwards, Allied bombing campaigns gradually destroyed German air forces, and a lack of trained pilots and fuel further weakened the Luftwaffe. In January 1945, during the last attempts to gain air superiority, the Luftwaffe suffered defeat, which ultimately contributed to its downfall as an effective fighting force.
