History of Marston Mat: Marston Mat, also known as PSP (Pierced Steel Planking), consists of special steel plates that were used by the engineering units of the U.S. Army for the rapid construction of temporary airfields during World War II. These perforated steel plates were extremely durable and allowed for the creation of stable and lasting airfield surfaces on soft or unstable ground. Their design facilitated easy water drainage, preventing deterioration of the surface quality.
The first tests of Marston Mat took place in November 1941 near Marston in North Carolina, from which their name is derived. During the war, these plates were widely used in combat operations in the Pacific, North Africa, and Europe. Thanks to them, the engineering units of the U.S. Army and Navy could build airfields of various sizes in just a few days, which was crucial for the mobility and effectiveness of military operations.
After the war, Marston Mat plates found new applications in peacetime, particularly in the construction of temporary roads and platforms.
Recommended paints:
- Gun Metal (ICM 1027)
To achieve the desired finish effect of the model, the manufacturer recommends using matte, satin, or glossy varnishes, depending on the modeler's preferences.
Assembly instructions: Before starting assembly, it is recommended to carefully read the instructions. Each component is numbered, which facilitates the assembly process. Basic tools will be needed for assembly, such as a knife and file for removing parts from the sprue, as well as rubber glue, adhesive tape, and clips for holding parts together after applying glue. Before painting, it is advisable to wash the plastic parts in a detergent solution and dry them thoroughly to ensure better adhesion of paint and decals.
Self-assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
