History and significance of the F-4 Phantom II: The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is an American, two-seat, twin-engine interceptor and bomber developed for the United States Navy. It entered service in 1961 and quickly became one of the most important aircraft in the arsenal of the U.S. Air Force, as well as in the air forces of many other countries. A total of 5,195 units were produced, making it the most widely produced American supersonic aircraft.

The F-4 Phantom II was heavily used during the Vietnam War, where it served as the primary air superiority fighter and ground attack and reconnaissance aircraft. This aircraft set 15 world records in aviation achievements, including speed and altitude records.

F-4E/2020 Terminator in the Turkish Air Force: The Turkish Air Force received its first F-4E in 1974, with additional deliveries occurring between 1977 and 1991. In 1995, 54 Turkish F-4E aircraft were upgraded by Israel Aerospace Industries, resulting in the F-4E 2020 Terminator version. These aircraft are planned to remain in service until at least 2030.

The F-4E/2020 Terminator has been used by the Turkish Air Force in numerous combat operations, including attacks on PKK bases in Iraq and missions against ISIS. These aircraft have also participated in reconnaissance and bombing missions as part of the conflict with the PKK.
