The Dassault MD 450 Ouragan was the first mass-produced French jet fighter, which played a key role in rebuilding the country's air power after World War II. Designed by Marcel Dassault's team, the aircraft featured a fully metal semi-monocoque low-wing design. The prototype took to the air in February 1949, and production machines began entering service in 1952, replacing the British De Havilland Vampire aircraft.

The Ouragan proved to be an extremely successful and solid design, which resulted in export successes. Besides France, where it served, among others, in the famous aerobatic team Patrouille de France, these machines went to India (under the name Toofani), El Salvador, and Israel. It was in the colors of the Israeli Air Force that the Ouragans underwent their most serious baptism of fire, proving highly effective as close air support aircraft during the Suez Crisis in 1956 and the Six-Day War in 1967.
