History and significance of Me-262:

The Messerschmitt Me-262, also known as Schwalbe (Swallow), was the world's first operational jet fighter. Its design began before the outbreak of World War II, but technical problems and wartime priorities delayed its introduction into service until 1944. The Me-262 was significantly faster and better armed than any other fighter of its time, making it an extremely formidable opponent for Allied air forces.

This aircraft was equipped with two Junkers Jumo 004 jet engines, allowing it to reach a maximum speed of about 870 km/h. It was armed with four 30 mm MK 108 cannons, making it extremely effective in air combat and in attacks on bombers. The Me-262 was also used as a bomber and reconnaissance aircraft.

Despite its advanced technological solutions, the Me-262 was unable to turn the tide of the war in favor of Germany. Its production was limited by Allied bombings and problems with the supply of raw materials and parts. Nevertheless, the Me-262 remains one of the most iconic aircraft of World War II and a symbol of technological breakthrough in aviation.
