The Messerschmitt Bf 109 is one of the most iconic and recognizable fighters in aviation history, forming the backbone of the German Luftwaffe throughout World War II. Like its main rival, the British Spitfire, this design was constantly developed to meet the demands of the dynamically changing battlefield. The F variant, commonly known as "Friedrich," is considered by many experts and pilots to be the peak aerodynamic achievement in the entire Bf 109 family.

Introduced into service in the spring of 1941, the Bf 109F outperformed contemporary versions of the Spitfire, becoming the favorite aircraft of many Luftwaffe aces.
