History and use of the MH-60S "Knighthawk":
The MH-60S, unofficially known as the "Knighthawk," was developed as a successor to the aging CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters. In 1998, the U.S. Navy commissioned Sikorsky to produce a new model, which first took to the skies on January 27, 2000. In February 2001, the helicopter was renamed MH-60S, reflecting its planned multi-role use.
The MH-60S is a hybrid, combining design features from various helicopter models. It has a fuselage with large sliding doors on both sides and a single tail wheel. It is equipped with a folding tail pylon, engines, drive system, and rotors derived from the S-70B/SH-60 model. It is the first U.S. Navy helicopter with a "glass cockpit," which conveys flight information via four digital displays.
The helicopter can be equipped with various weapon systems, including door-mounted guns such as the M60D, M240D, or GAU-17/A. It can also carry Hellfire missiles, Hydra 70 rockets, and larger guns thanks to the "batwing" weapon system based on the UH-60L model. Additionally, the MH-60S can be equipped with a FLIR turret for cooperation with Hellfire missiles and an infrared jamming system ALQ-144.
The MH-60S is also equipped with mine detection systems, such as the AQS-20A and Airborne Laser Mine Detection System (ALMDS), which allow for the identification of underwater objects in coastal waters. In 2014, the ALMDS system was implemented in operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet, enabling smaller units that cannot operate with the MH-53E Sea Dragon to perform mine countermeasure roles.
Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. To assemble, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
