Original MiG-15 aircraft:
The MiG-15, also known by its NATO code "Fagot," is one of the most famous jet fighters developed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau for the Soviet Union. It was one of the first jet fighters to successfully implement swept wings, allowing for high transonic speeds.
The MiG-15 played a key role during the Korean War, where in air combat it outperformed fighters with straight wings, which had largely been reduced to ground attack roles. The appearance of the MiG-15 forced the United States Air Force to quickly introduce the North American F-86 Sabre into Korea to counter the Soviet threat.
In later years, after being refined into the more advanced MiG-17, the basic MiG-15 design surprised the West again when it proved effective against supersonic fighters such as the Republic F-105 Thunderchief and McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II during the Vietnam War in the 1960s.
The MiG-15 is considered one of the most produced jet aircraft, with over 13,000 units manufactured. Despite the passage of time, the MiG-15 still remains in service as an advanced training aircraft in the Korean People's Army Air Force.
