History of the MiG-21: The MiG-21, known by its NATO code as "Fishbed," is a Soviet fighter aircraft designed in the 1950s by the MiG design bureau. With its distinctive silhouette, it earned nicknames such as "pencil" or "balalaika." It was the first Soviet fighter that successfully combined the features of a fighter and interceptor, achieving a speed of Mach 2 with a relatively low power turbojet engine.
The MiG-21 was produced under license in Czechoslovakia and India, and its Chinese copy was designated J-7. This aircraft was used by 34 countries, including Warsaw Pact states and many others around the world. Its versatility and reliability made it one of the most produced fighters in history.
Development and modifications: The MiG-21 underwent many modifications and improvements over the years. Initially intended for daytime operations, it was quickly adapted to various combat conditions. The MiG-21F-13 version, which can be built from this kit, was one of the first to introduce K-13 missiles and limited the artillery armament to a single NR-30 cannon.
Experimental versions and modifications, such as Je-66A, Je-6W, and Je-7, tested various technologies that later found application in serial models. The MiG-21bis version, introduced into production in the 1970s, was the fourth generation of this aircraft, characterized by better performance and modern equipment.
