The MiG-31, known in NATO as "Foxhound," is a two-seat, supersonic interceptor fighter designed by the Mikoyan and Gurevich design bureau. Its design was a response to the need to combine the long range of the Tu-128 with the speed of the MiG-25. This aircraft was the world's first mass-produced fighter equipped with a phased array radar, allowing it to simultaneously track multiple targets and engage them at long distances.

The MiG-31B, being a modernized version, introduced a number of improvements that significantly enhanced its combat capabilities. With advanced data exchange systems such as APD-518 and RK-RLDN, the aircraft could covertly transmit target information to other units, enabling effective patrolling of large areas.
