Description
Plastic model airplane to assemble: Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17F 'Fresco' 1:72 Airfix 03091A
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 (NATO code: Fresco) is a Soviet single-engine jet fighter made of metal, developed from the successful MiG-15 model. The aircraft was designed as a bomber destroyer, but due to its exceptional agility and maneuverability, it proved to be an extremely formidable opponent in dogfights, as demonstrated during the Vietnam War, where it faced more modern American designs such as the F-105 Thunderchief and F-4 Phantom.
The MiG-17F version was the basic serial variant, equipped with a Klimov VK-1F engine with an afterburner. The aircraft was characterized by excellent flying qualities, was easy to maintain, and inexpensive to produce, which made it the standard fighter for Warsaw Pact countries from the mid-1950s. It was also produced under license in Poland (as Lim-5) and in China.
