  • Mitsubishi A6M2b-21 "Zero" (Zeke), piloted by NAP 2/C Yoshiro Hashiguchi, 3rd Naval Flying Group, Imperial Navy, base Denpasar, Bali, February 1942.

History of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero: The Mitsubishi A6M Zero, also known as "Zeke," was one of the most advanced naval fighters at the time it was introduced into service in 1940. Its excellent maneuverability, high speed, and long range made it a terror for Allied pilots in the early years of the Pacific War. The Zero quickly gained a reputation as an outstanding fighter, achieving an impressive kill ratio of 12 to 1 in its initial engagements.

This aircraft was a key element of Japan's expansionist ambitions and dominated the Pacific for a long time. However, over time, with the introduction of new tactics and better equipment by the Allies, the Zero began to lose its advantage. The lack of armor for the pilot and the absence of self-sealing fuel tanks made it more vulnerable to damage in combat.

Despite these shortcomings, the Zero remained in service until the end of the war, and its production outpaced other models of Japanese combat aircraft. In the later stages of the war, the Zero was also used in kamikaze operations.

Assembly and painting kit. Does not include paints or glue. For assembly, separately sold modeling tools are needed (including cutters, files, tweezers), paints, brushes, and plastic model glue (e.g., Tamiya Extra Thin Cement). The photo shows a professionally assembled and painted model.
