The North American P-51 Mustang is an American, single-engine, long-range fighter and ground-attack aircraft of all-metal construction, which gained a reputation as one of the best fighters of World War II. The P-51D version, considered the ultimate development of the design, introduced a bubble canopy for excellent visibility, improved armament, and a new Packard V-1650-7 engine, which significantly improved the machine's performance. The Mustang played a key role in the Allied victory in Europe, achieving more aerial victories than any other USAAF fighter in that theater of operations.
