History and development of the OV-10D Bronco:
The OV-10D Bronco is a modified version of the OV-10A, developed at the Naval Aviation Refurbishment Centre (NARF). Modifications included engine upgrades, avionics, communication systems, and cockpit equipment. One of the key features of this version was the installation of a new FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) system under the extended nose, which also housed laser target designators. Additionally, the tail booms were equipped with devices to protect against surface-to-air missiles.
The OV-10D+ aircraft was capable of performing a wide range of tasks, including ground target observation and directing attack aircraft both day and night. Despite its advanced observation capabilities, the Bronco retained its function as an attack aircraft, capable of engaging ground targets. The OV-10D+ was used by the U.S. Marine Corps during Operation DESERT STORM in 1991.
