Historical background: The P-400 Airacobra, being the export version of the P-39, initially went to the RAF as the Airacobra I. After an unsuccessful debut in Europe, these aircraft were taken over by the USAAF and directed to fight on the South Pacific front. The P-400 version played a key role in the early months of the war in the Pacific, particularly during the battles for New Guinea and Guadalcanal.

The P-39 Airacobra, from which the P-400 is derived, was one of the main American fighters at the time the USA entered the war. Although its performance at high altitudes was limited due to the lack of an effective supercharger, this aircraft gained recognition in the Soviet Union, where most air combat took place at medium and low altitudes.
